One of my favorite things to do is find new ways to use ordinary objects. While I’ve never smoked a cigarette a day in my life, I have a strong thing for vintage and antique glass ashtrays. I mainly love using them as coasters for cocktails or vessels to house a bottle of wine. The deep inset of an ashtray catches liquids and helps prevent ring spots on surfaces—always drawn to a moment of style and substance—and they’re so easy to clean with soap and warm water.
What to look for: Whenever we’re out antiquing, I always keep an eye out for unique shapes, depths, and colors. I tend to be drawn to clear glass since it fits well in any situation but I do have a few pieces in lovely shades of green and amber.
Where to find: Aside from a handful of favorite spots around Fort Worth including Ties 2 the Past, Montgomery Street Antique Mall, Old Home Supply, and The Mercantile we often frequent estate sales (Lemons to Lemonade is a local favorite), antique shops while we’re traveling, and Etsy or ebay are great contenders as well to source unique ashtrays.
